Avon Area Ramblers

Walk with us

Welcome to Avon Area Ramblers

The Ramblers is Britain's biggest charity working to promote walking.

Avon Area covers the former County of Avon. We have seven groups which organise regular walks and social activities:

You are welcome to come along on two or three walks before joining the Ramblers - please see the websites for the separate groups or try the walks finder (this currently only shows walks by the Bristol, Norton Radstock and Severnside groups).

Our members also contribute to the Wessex Wanderer Railway Walks from stations along the Bristol to Weymouth line.

Memorial Ceremony for David Waterstone

David Waterstone, onetime Chairman of Avon Area Ramblers passed away on 30th September 2014. David did an immense amount of work for the Ramblers both in administration, as Footpaths Secretary and in setting up the Path Wardens Scheme. A fuller appreciation can be found in the Spring 2015 edition of Avon Area News.

The Bath Group Path Wardens Team installed a plaque in his memory on the riverside footpath at Batheaston, a path which David was instrumental in saving. David’s widow, Sandra, unveiled the plaque on 13th March 2015 in a ceremony attended by some twenty Bath Group members. Tributes were paid by David Butterworth – Bath Path Wardens Team, John Robertson – Ranger for BaNES and Ron Phelps – Chairman of the Path Wardens Sub-Committee, to which Sandra graciously responded.

The gathering then walked “David’s Path” to the toll bridge and returned on the new path on the other side of the River.
